Course Description

Welcome to Afterburner Success Partners, where we help you chart a path to achieve your dreams and live your best life! If you have not already, be sure to sign up for the weekly email.

I’ve spent the last four weeks telling you about who ASP is, trying to set the stage for you so you can realize that, yes, you can live your dreams, you can learn how, and ultimately you can live your best life. I’ve spent the previous two posts telling you a little bit about me. I hope by now you believe that what I am trying to teach you is something anyone can do.  I hope you believe that I am credible, that is, someone you would want to follow and benefit from, and my motives are wholesome.  In short, something and someone worth your time. Following and referring these posts to others does not cost anything and there is only an upside for you, your family, and friends to benefit from.

How do I obtain this valuable information?

There are several ways to obtain the information you need to achieve your dreams and live your best life and I’d like to review those before we jump into the program.  The first and simplest is to sign up for these blog posts and follow me weekly where over time you will receive all the information you need, absolutely free of charge. The problem with this method is that it is slow and quite impersonal.  The second method is to purchase the low-cost online course that you can complete anywhere and anytime.. Alternatively, you can sign up for one of the Zoom classes (again, at a very modest cost) where over four virtual, instructor-led, interactive classes you will receive all the information you need to complete your written life goal and achievement plan.  This is a customized plan we made together that is tailored to your interests and is yours to keep.  The third, and frankly the best, method is for me to come to your facility to teach a larger group.  This in-person live instructional method is a very good way to learn and is a great gift to your employees, your social group, or your church group. I am also available for one-on-one or ad hoc meetings, either in person or via Zoom.  Completing the course for each of these methods will result in a custom lifetime plan, customized to your individual needs and wants. So you can achieve your dreams and live your best life!  Don’t you love all the choices?

Converting dreams to reality

OK, let’s get into what you will learn from taking the course to make your dreams a reality, and to live your best life. Remember we are going to take this in bite-sized pieces and each week will be building on the previous week until you will receive essentially the complete course via this blog.  If you miss any or want to go back to the beginning, simply click on the website home page, find the Blog tab, and look up any or all past blogs.

When you take the course, the first thing we are going to do is talk about your dreams.  We all have dreams, don’t we?  For example, like all young men, I became interested in cars when I was about 14.  I would buy hot rod magazines and as I was in high school and community college, I even built a 1969 Chevelle that I had bought from my dad as my first car.  That was very cool and because I was mechanically inclined, it was something I could do, and I was good at it.  But what I really wanted, and dreamed about, was having a Corvette.  You see, as a teenager, the thought of owning a Corvette really was only a dream because I had no path to making it happen.  I did not know about setting goals, action plans, and timelines so that I really could have a path to owning the Corvette. You will hear more about the Corvette story later, and I have to admit, it’s a pretty good one.

As I was updating the course in early 2024, I Googled “Personal Development Goals” and received 1.26 billion results.  Well, this is quite interesting as when I did the same thing in October 2019, I only received 990 million hits.  What this tells me is that a lot of people want to grow and improve themselves and the market is reacting by trying to provide products that satisfy that need.  This also tells me there is a lot of stuff out there that may or may not work.  What you want, what everyone wants, is a formula that works for them and does not waste time or money.  And that’s why I developed ASP, I have proven its effectiveness over many, many years.

A unique course

The course offered through ASP is unique, at least as far as I know.  Why is that? What makes it different than the other 1.26 billion “hits” that come with personal development goals? Well, I think, no, I know, the answer is that we work with you to identify what you want in YOUR life, and then we, together, develop a plan, starting from where you are at that moment and laying it out for a lifetime.  In short, what that means is that you have a plan, your plan that you developed, along with tangible steps to achieve all you want in the financial professional, and personal arenas.  I’m not sure where else you can get that. As you know, everyone tells you in January you need to set goals for the next year.  Fewer still help you figure out what steps to take to get there, and fewer still will help you figure out what you want for 10, 20, 30, or even 40 years.  That’s what we do at ASP.

The course is enjoyable and interactive, and we use multimedia to teach and entertain. Remember when I told you that there is not a lot of original content, I just pull it all together in a way that few, if any, others do. As you progress through the class, I reinforce what I teach from others who have gone before us or are experts in their field.  In an enjoyable way.

I like stories. Do you like stories?

I’ve learned over the years that people like stories, and I tell a lot of stories throughout this class.  Why?  Well, stories make the content relatable, and personal and when you hear the stories, you will go “Yes, I can relate to that story, it sounds like me!”  I want you to know that you and I are alike. I started with almost nothing but was able to make something of myself.  My first “home” was an old ratty 12x60 mobile home (Trailer.  It was a trashy trailer that the slum lord rented to junior military enlistees, not a mobile home, let’s just call it what it was). If you are just starting out or want to improve yourself, I want you to know you can.

Anyway, the course will spend some time setting the stage to get you in the frame of mind you need to be so that you are prepared to learn.  We’ll talk about what you want your legacy to be, and how to define success and then we’ll cover what the real deliverables are in the class.

Before I lay those deliverables out for you, let’s talk about a few other things.  Those things are what your legacy will be, what success is, and finally regret.

What will your legacy be?

Few people think about, much less, prepare for, their legacy.  I’m starting to think about it more and more because I’m 65 years old and there is more time behind me than in front of me.  If you look back on the ancient Greek or Roman philosophers such as Socrates, Aristotle, Epicurus, Plato, Marcus Aurelius, Julius Caesar, Romulus, and others, they left a pretty good written record of themselves because they wrote things down, or scribes wrote about them. Similarly, early European and US statesmen used to write letters and keep personal journals, leaving written records of their thoughts and lives.  Who among us does that today? Each of us, when we are gone, wants to be remembered and thought of fondly.  For most of us, that legacy will be of a life well lived, accomplishments, and things (tangible or nontangible) handed down to our children and others. A few people can build monuments, have paintings commissioned, or make large financial donations and have buildings or stadiums named after them.  Military heroes can have bridges or sections of highways named after them. When you think about what you want to be remembered for when you are gone, and what your legacy is, what do you think about? Take a few moments to ponder this thought, it’s important and may change the way you live the rest of your life. What will your legacy be?

What does success mean to you?

Turning to success.  This is something we will get into in-depth during the course and at the end I will give you a definition of success that is the absolute best I have ever seen.  For now, let’s just say that success is defined differently for every person. What one person considers a successful life is likely far different than another person would think.  Like your legacy, think a bit about what being successful looks like to you. What does success look like to you?

I hope you never experience regret

Then there is regret.  I’ve saved this one for last as it can be a difficult subject to talk about. Sadly, I’ve watched many friends and family pass away in the past few years.  As we get older, we tend to look back on our lives and perhaps we have regret.  Regret in things we should have done, or not should have done.  How we’ve treated others or some other decision we made when things were going our way.  Sometimes, we get a kick in the teeth when we are younger which causes us to take action that will prevent regret later in life.  Have you, or are you in the process of, doing something you will regret later in life?

With any of these issues, if you are not sure, you are in the right place because these are some of the things we seek to cover through this course.

OK, back to the deliverables.  When you have completed the course, you will have as many as four documents.  They are the culmination of your dreams and your definition of what your best life looks like.  What are these documents?  They are your financial, professional, and personal, goals all rolled up into a lifetime goals plan.  But they are more!  Each goal category contains achievement plans and timelines such that anything you wish to do in your life has a defined written goal, an achievement plan, and a timeline, for you to get there. So, you can achieve your dreams and live your best life, built from where you are today.  That’s right, your own unique plan, just for you!

OK, so that’s enough for this time!

What’s in it for Me

We’ve all heard people tell us we should set New Year’s resolutions, blah, blah, blah.  When you take this course, you will learn far more than just that you should make a resolution.  You will take the time to actually determine what you want, what actions you need to take to get it, and how long it will take.  That’s called an action plan, and it’s what’s missing in so many conversations today. Secretly, even though we might not admit it or voice it out loud, this is something all of us want.  Not just for ourselves, but for our family.  Because we all want to be successful and leave a legacy, one we can be proud of.

Recommended Resources

We continue the theme of the importance of how you think.  Perhaps the best resource in this regard is the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (Note 1).  This book is almost 100 years old, but the principles in it are as alive today as they were then.  Indeed, the book will give you the secret for those who are ready for it. Like “The Power of Positive Thinking”, when you read this book, you will feel like the author is writing about you in the present time.  Purchase and read this wonderful book and add it to your library.
