Fortune Favors the Bold (Copy)
“Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.”
Introduction
I think by now you know that I like quotes and before we summarize the class, I’d like to leave you with two final quotes and a little bit of personal commentary.
How’s Your Luck?
In 161 BC, a Roman, Terence or Publius Terentius wrote a play entitled Phormio. One of the proverbial phrases in Act 1 was roughly translated to mean fortune favors the brave.
Later, another Roman poet named Virgil wrote the words “Audentis Fortuna Iuvat’”, Fortuna favors the bold, which is a more precise and literal version of the original quote. If you ever watched the 2014 movie “John Wick”, you would have seen this quote tattooed on his back in one shower scene.
This quote also reminds me of one from Ray Kroc. Ray Kroc was the founder of McDonald's, and he used to say that “Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get.”
Here is the point: If you want to be successful in anything you do in life, you must be bold. You must take calculated risks, you must work hard, yes, you must sweat, and you must stick with it. You must have grit. I hope that if you have learned nothing else from this series of blog posts, which now numbers 105, you have learned these important lessons.
