From my cookbook…So Much More Than Just A Cookbook!
More than just a cookbook! Learn cooking tips, advice on cookware, and how to set up your kitchen! And it makes a great Christmas, wedding or birthday gift!
There are over 300 recipes in my recently published cookbook, Everyday Cooking for Everyday People Like Us (Click on the link in Note 1 to get your own copy). Even in these inflationary times, we can prepare delicious meals for our family and do so in a way that does not break the budget. And it’s all in the cookbook!
Your complete guide to a wonderful cooking experience
I’ve spent the past few months sharing delicious recipes from my recently published cookbook with you. Today, I’d like to tell you how my cookbook is more than just 401 pages of over 300 recipes and why it makes an excellent gift for Christmas, a wedding, or other special occasion. Besides being a great gift, you’ll want one for yourself too!
It’s a complete guide for the home cook to make the kitchen experience enjoyable. Each recipe has a story behind it, making it entertaining to read as well. I want to highlight some of the added benefits you get with the cookbook besides just time-tested recipes:
Food and the kitchen bring families and people together, creating memories that last a lifetime. Just as I have fond memories of growing up and eating incredible meals, you will also make memories for your family. Most of these recipes are designed to be family-sized and provide leftovers for the workweek or to freeze for later use.
Use the cookbook to experience the joy of eating delicious meals, the pleasure of the cooking experience, and a variety of dishes.
Each recipe has been thoroughly tested, with most having undergone repeated cooking over many years. I cooked each recipe one last time as I wrote the cookbook and verified it works as written before placing it in the cookbook to validate the techniques and measurements. Unlike many internet recipes, each dish will turn out well when you cook it.
Many of my recipes include valuable tips and techniques that help you save time, money, or achieve a better outcome. Again, this is not something you typically find in many cookbooks. I tell you why we do something the way we do it, so you learn in the process. I’m always thinking ahead and incorporating those thoughts into each recipe. How many times have you been frustrated trying to follow a recipe, only to find that it didn’t provide all the necessary information to turn out well or look like the picture? That will never happen with this cookbook!
I encourage you to customize each recipe to your family’s tastes and make it your own.
Each recipe includes a picture of the final product. They are not professional, coffee-table-ready pictures, but actual dishes I took with my iPhone. Nothing fancy, just everyday cooking that we enjoy.
Learn when to cover your food and when to leave it uncovered. And, when to start with food covered and end uncovered!
Learn how to cook pasta properly. New techniques have emerged to make pasta cooking easier and the pasta better tasting. I’ll tell you the best pasta to buy (Hint: There are significant differences among pastas) and provide you with other helpful tips. Here’s one: Do you rinse your pasta after cooking, or do you add oil to it to prevent sticking? Please say you don’t…
What’s the best way to reheat leftovers? Again, HUGE differences that affect how the leftovers taste. Leftovers stored and properly reheated can taste as good as, or in some cases, better than when they were first prepared. Yes, that’s true!
I provide you with a list of basic kitchen cookware and tools, and point out brands that I like from my experience (both good and bad!). I will also provide you with more advanced tools that you may want to purchase as you gain experience.
We discuss a basic pantry list and shopping tips to reduce your time in the grocery store, only buy what you need, and enhance your shopping experience. In many places, I discuss the value of different brands or the quality of the food you begin with. Like all things in life, using quality food, cookware, and tools will improve the results and your cooking experience.
I discuss how to set up your kitchen to be as efficient as possible.
I briefly discuss food pairings. This is not a fine dining guide paired with a specific wine, just what you and I would do daily. While I’m typically a follower of rules, I don’t like hard and fast rules in the kitchen. I want to eat what I like or make the best use of the ingredients we have on hand.
That’s all for this week!
